Benefits:-

— Azure Backup offers two types of Replication: 


  1. Locally Redundant Storage.
  2. Geo-Redundant Storage.




LRS:- Replicates your data three times in a storage Scale Unit. All copies of the data exist in the same Region low cost option & prevent from local hardware failure.


GRS:- GRS Replicates your data to a Secondary Region, which is Azure Paired Region. Costly it protect from Regional Outage.




4. Unlimited Data Transfer:-  Transfer not charge for data, transferred cost associated with inbound data, to import large amount of data.


5. Data Encryption (Passphrase 0r Key).


6. Application Consistent Backup:- Additional fixes are not required to restore the data.


7. Long Term Retention:-



Azure Backup:- Protect data on-premises and in the cloud. BCDR (Business continuity and Disaster Recovery).


Azure Site Recovery:- Co-ordinates Virtual Machines and physical server Replication, Failover and Failback.


Recovery Service Vault:- You can use RSV to hold Backup data for various Azure Services such as IAAS VM’s and Azure SQL Databases.



Azure Backup components:


1. MARS Agent (Microsoft Azure Recovery Services):-


— No Separate Backup Server.

— On-premises Backup.

— Max 3 times per day.

— Only RSV for Backup.     ——> RSV — Recovery Service Vault 



2. System Center DPM:- (Data Protection Manager):


— VMWare VM.

— VSS (Applications Aware Snapshot).

— Cannot Backup Oracle Workload.

— Locally attached disk, RSV



3. Azure Backup Server:-


— Flexible, when to take Backup.

— Can use Recovery service vault.

— Backup VMWare disk.

— Locally Attached disk.



4. Azure IaaS VM Backup:-


— No agent required.

— Backup VM once a day.

— Cannot Backup on-premises.

— No locally attach disk, only RSV.





Azure Backup and Site Recovery Lab:



  1. Create a Resource     ——> Storage


— Backup and Site Recovery 

— Name,   Subscription,   Resource group,   Location.


Now open RG   ——> MyServiceVault  —> Backup  —> Site Recovery


Where is your work running?    — Azure or On-premises


  1. File & folder.
  2. Hyper-V VM.
  3. VMWare VM.
  4. Microsoft SQL Server.
  5. Microsoft Sharepoint.

— Prepare Infrastructures



  1. Install Recovery Service Agent (40 MB) MARS:-


— Download Vault Credential

Now open icon shown on Desktop.


— Register server  { Enter Vault Credentials }    —> Browse

— Once register

— Now click on Schedule Backup.

— Select items to Backup

— Schedule a Backup Everyday.

— Backup Now


— Delete some files and Recover Data.
